About Us:

Join the Association of Alcohol and other Drug Agencies Northern Territory (AADANT) Incorporated, the leading organization representing Alcohol and Other Drugs treatment services in the Northern Territory. As an autonomous, membership-based, non-profit association, we collaborate closely with our members to enhance and fortify the delivery of Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) services to individuals affected by substance misuse in the Northern Territory.

Our primary objective is to cultivate and uphold a robust, sustainable, and culturally inclusive AOD sector, fostering collaboration among stakeholders to effectively mitigate alcohol and drug-related harm throughout the Northern Territory.

We now have a rewarding opportunity available for a skilled Executive Officer with experience in the AOD and/or mental health sectors to join our team in Darwin.

How You’ll Make a Difference:

As our next Executive Officer, you’ll play a crucial role in collaborating with our membership to enhance and reinforce the capacity and workforce capabilities of Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) services in the Northern Territory. You will oversee the operation and management of the association, representing the interests of our members to various funding bodies and agencies while providing effective and strategic advocacy for the AOD sector.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring AADANT activities are consistent with the AADANT purpose, mission, and strategic direction
  • Maintaining and expanding AADANT membership base 
  • Ensuring the Chair and Board are kept up to date and informed on organisation performance, including the full range of issues impacting the organisation
  • Serving as the AOD sector peak body spokesperson, representing and promoting the values and views of the AADANT membership within the NT and at a National level.
  • Coordinating and facilitating AOD Sector Forums, including an annual conference

What You’ll Bring to AADANT:

To be considered for this position, you’ll need to have the demonstrated capacity to represent the interests of the AOD community sector at both Territory and Federal levels. Your ability to advocate to government bodies and other community stakeholders will be informed by your prior experience working in either the AOD or mental health sector. This could be prior experience working in the industry as either a practitioner or senior leader, experience advocating for vulnerable groups that experience harmful AOD use, community development experience, or other relevant areas. 


You’ll also need the proven ability to develop strategic plans and service designs while also leading a small team in delivering impactful state-wide strategies. Your compassion for service users and community members who are impacted by harmful AOD use will be paramount to your continued success with AADANT.

Other requirements include:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in working in a similar role
  • Ochre Card (Working with Children Check NT)
  • National Police Clearance (or willingness to obtain)
  • Driver’s License
  • Ability to work in a non-smoking environment

Though not essential, a relevant tertiary qualification and experience reporting to a not-for-profit Board will be highly regarded.
